Orthotics/Digital Scanners

Orthotics/Digital Scanners

Walking creates forces through the feet of about one to two times body weight. In an average day, people may take as many as 10,000 steps or more. During running, it is estimated that these forces can increase to nine times body weight.

Any inefficiency in foot function is therefore multiplied many times over causing many foot and lower limb problems. Often orthotics (shoe inserts constructed of various materials) intended to correct an abnormal or irregular walking pattern by slightly altering the angle at which the foot strikes a walking or running surface, is all that is needed for successful treatment.

3d Digital Scanner for Orthotics
Advancements in orthotic technology allow our Podiatrists to use a 3D digital scanner when obtaining foot dimensions and depth. This equates to a more precise method of obtaining foot data, a quicker turn around time from the orthotic lab (standard is 5 working days) and a more accurate orthotic prescription.

Indications for orthotics would include:

• Heel pain
• Arch pain
• Flat feet
Hammertoes
Bunions
• Peripheral Neuropathy
• Tendonitis
• Limb length discrepancies
• Bursitis
Tailor’s Bunion (Bunnionette)
Morton’s Neuroma
Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome
• Shin Pain
• Calluses
• Abnormal shoe wear (e.g. one side of the sole of the shoe wears out faster than the other)
